Applies to: Windows and Microsoft Store installations covered by Microsoft’s app guide

The useful distinctions

  • Microsoft Store Library can list an owned app.
  • The documented reinstall route uses that app’s Install control.
  • Windows, Store and application maintenance are separate layers.

Find the original installation identity

Microsoft’s troubleshooting guide includes reinstalling an application through Store Library. Begin with the account and app identity associated with the legitimate installation. A broadly similar search result is not a reliable substitute, particularly when several players use generic names. If the original entry is missing, investigate that absence rather than silently changing products.

Preserve what reinstalling cannot infer

Before removing an existing installation, understand what local configuration or files it keeps and how those would be restored. An owned Store app and a streaming-service subscription are separate records. Reinstalling software cannot reconstruct an unknown service address or prove that an account is active. Keep those facts available through the appropriate private support route instead of expecting the Store to supply them.

Check each completion stage

After installation, verify that the intended app opens and then carry out its normal authorised setup. Record an installation failure separately from a later app-login message. If Windows or the Store itself also reports errors, use the relevant maintenance route rather than repeatedly installing the same player. A successful download is one stage of a usable setup, not a guarantee about every operation that follows.

A focused way to proceed

  1. Confirm the Microsoft account used for the app.
  2. Open Microsoft Store and Library.
  3. Find the exact intended application.
  4. Use its Install control and finish the displayed setup.

Worked example · synthetic

Hypothetical example: a viewer finds the original player in Library and reinstalls it, but it then asks for service access details. The Store task can be complete while the account-configuration task remains. Choosing a different app simply to avoid that question would not restore the missing information.

When to stop or ask for help

Stop if the listing or owning account is uncertain. Ask Microsoft about Store access problems and the application publisher about a correctly installed app that still fails.
