The useful distinctions

  • Groups organise entries for viewers.
  • A group name alone does not establish a unique channel identity.
  • Similar-looking entries can still represent different editions.

Identify what the group label tells you

A channel can appear under a news category, a country category or a personal collection without those labels necessarily defining different services. Conversely, two entries that look similar may be regional or other distinct editions. Preserve the complete labels and source context before deciding that they are duplicates. Group organisation is a navigation question; the programme association is an identity question, and neither should be inferred solely from the other.

Do not merge away a meaningful distinction

Compare the approved source references where they can be inspected safely, then check a programme boundary that could reveal an edition difference. If both entries genuinely represent one identity, they may simply be two ways of reaching it. If the evidence differs, keep the distinction and ask for clarification. Avoid deleting an entry only because its logo repeats or assigning a new reference solely because it appears in another category.

Hypothetical worked example

Fictional Harbor News appears in both “News” and “Favourites” on 8 November 2026, using the same approved reference and dated programme sequence. A separate “Harbor News East” entry has a regional bulletin. The first pair may be duplicated presentation access, while the regional entry needs its own identity check. Counting categories as separate identities would miss that distinction and could attach the wrong programme list to the regional service.

A focused way to proceed

  1. Compare the complete names and approved references of the two entries.
  2. Check a distinct programme boundary rather than only their logos.
  3. Keep separate entries when an actual edition difference is established.

When to stop or ask for help

Clarify the service identity before consolidating entries or changing their guide associations.
