Applies to: One supported audio route and two lawful references with useful sync events; keep player and picture processing fixed.
The useful distinctions
- Sony recommends comparing channels or video sources for sync issues.
- Sony notes that a programme or broadcast can contribute the mismatch.
- Diagnostic inference to test: An item-specific result still needs reproduction before assigning responsibility.
Keep the route fixed
Do not move from Bluetooth to a soundbar while also changing the item. That would combine content scope with a route comparison. Use the same destination, player settings and picture mode for the first pass. If the second reference uses a different received audio format, record the difference because it remains a possible explanation for the observed change.
Choose references with informative events
A talking head is useful only when its intended alignment is trustworthy. Prefer a lawful sync reference or another item whose visible/audio event is clear. Record the selected track as well as the title, since alternate tracks can be separate inputs to the player. Exact positions make the report reproducible without sharing account credentials or a full programme recording.
Escalate the smallest reproducible case
If only one item shows the offset repeatedly, give the legitimate app or provider the item, track, position and route result. The comparison supports an item-specific investigation, not certainty that the publisher encoded it incorrectly. If both references are affected similarly, investigate the shared route or timing configuration before sending a broad service complaint.
A focused way to proceed
- Record the failing item’s route, track and exact event position.
- Replay its event twice without changing timing controls.
- Compare a second known synchronised reference on the same route.
- Return to the first item and confirm the original observation.
- Report which items and positions reproduce the mismatch.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical example: one item’s reference event is late on every replay, while a known aligned sample remains correct on the same soundbar route. The user supplies the item position and received formats so support can distinguish item behaviour from a format-dependent path.
When to stop or ask for help
Different items may select different formats. Item-specific evidence cannot alone identify whether content, app processing or format handling introduced the offset.
