Applies to: Any lawful reference with visible lower-edge text and a display/player offering documented fit controls; caption configuration itself is outside this diagnostic.
The useful distinctions
- Sony warns that zoom/wide modes can hide score and ticker information.
- Some received signal modes restrict aspect adjustments.
- Diagnostic inference to test: Matching loss of text and an edge marker supports a shared picture-boundary cause.
Check the whole lower edge
The symptom may first attract attention because words are missing, but inspect nearby picture objects too. A missing lower line of text and a missing border segment provide different evidence from text alone. Keep the caption track, text size and placement fixed during this check. Otherwise a text change could be mistaken for restored picture area.
Use a shared marker
Pick a fixed programme element or an owned border reference near the affected edge. If a fit change restores both, investigate framing before changing text settings. If the reference boundary remains intact while only text is clipped, preserve that result for a separate player/text workflow. This comparison does not establish how captions were authored or whether the selected track contains complete dialogue.
Avoid a false full-screen goal
A larger picture may make text easier to read yet remove more of it at the boundary. Evaluate complete text and picture area together. Record the input mode and fit choices that were compared, since some equipment restricts resizing for particular signals. The resulting note should explain which pixels returned, giving the next troubleshooting owner a concrete boundary rather than a general complaint about subtitles.
A focused way to proceed
- Choose a passage where the clipped text position repeats.
- Record a second visible marker near the same lower edge.
- Compare one documented fit state while keeping caption settings unchanged.
- Check whether both text and marker return together.
- Restore the original state and verify the pattern.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical example: a bottom score label and a border marker are both clipped in a zoom state, then both return in a documented original-fit state. The outcome supports a framing investigation without changing caption size, language or track selection.
When to stop or ask for help
If only text is affected with an intact picture boundary, move to the player’s text-rendering guidance. This article does not configure accessibility or caption tracks.
