The useful distinctions
- SHIELD’s guide includes a Network storage route.
- A network share differs from locally attached USB storage.
- A device-level mount is not an app-library configuration.
Define the storage destination
NVIDIA documents network storage as a device-level connection. Know which server and share you intend to use before selecting an entry, particularly on a network with several computers. A similar device name does not establish that the share contains the files or permissions needed for the task. This workflow concerns access to your legitimate local storage, not a streaming subscription.
Test one file-access result
After the device recognises the share, check a harmless known file or folder through an appropriate interface. That is a narrower result than a complete media-library scan. A player or server app may still need its own library selection, and another app may use a different access method. Keep those application tasks separate rather than treating a device mount as universal media support.
Keep the diagnosis at the failed stage
If the share does not appear, record that discovery result. If it appears but rejects authorised access, record the permission stage instead. If access works but one app cannot use it, move the question to that app’s documentation. Changing several unrelated network or player settings at once would obscure these distinctions and might affect other users of the same storage server.
A focused way to proceed
- Identify the intended local storage server/share.
- Open Device Preferences and Storage where applicable.
- Enter the Network storage interface.
- Select the legitimate share and complete its authorised access prompts.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical example: SHIELD can browse a known folder on a household NAS, but a particular application has not been told to use that folder. The network-storage step has a different completion condition from the app-library step. Re-entering the same share repeatedly would not configure the application’s library.
When to stop or ask for help
Consult the share owner or administrator about access failures. Use the actual SHIELD software guide when menu labels differ; never publish server credentials in a public setup example.
