Applies to: Roku streaming player or Roku TV using the documented Home Apps section
The useful distinctions
- Roku documents Star Options and Move app for an installed app tile.
- The selected position is confirmed with OK.
- App tile arrangement applies to the Roku device being used, not every device on the account.
Find the installed-app surface
Roku’s current Home documentation places the installed-app grid in an Apps section, while older screenshots can show a different arrangement. Locate that surface before changing a tile. A Quick Access entry can expose a different subset of options, so its menu should not be assumed to be identical to the installed app’s menu.
Move rather than reinstall
Highlight the intended installed app and use the documented Star menu movement command. Choose its position and confirm with OK. The operation changes navigation order, so deleting and adding the app again is unnecessary for this purpose. Take care to select Move app rather than another option when the menu contains several maintenance and account actions.
Keep the device scope clear
Roku states that app arrangement changes apply to the device being used. Check that receiver’s Home screen after the move instead of expecting another Roku on the same account to mirror the position. This is useful when preparing several rooms: each arrangement may need its own deliberate navigation task. Tile order does not demonstrate that a different device has the same app availability.
A focused way to proceed
- Press Home and find the installed Apps section on the actual layout.
- Highlight the intended app tile.
- Press Star and choose Move app.
- Move it to the desired position and press OK.
- Check the same Roku device’s arrangement afterwards.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical example: a viewer moves a player near the top of one Roku’s installed-app grid, then sees its old position on a bedroom Roku. That is consistent with the documented device-local arrangement. Reinstalling the bedroom app would not be necessary merely to choose a different tile position.
When to stop or ask for help
Use Roku’s current Home-layout guide when the Apps section or menu differs. Confirm the actual installed app rather than inferring removal from a missing Quick Access entry.
