The useful distinctions

  • The library view can add current items to a new or existing playlist.
  • Item details also exposes Add to Playlist.
  • A library view can Play All or shuffle the visible items.

Choose what must persist

A current library view can be useful for discovery, but an event or recurring review needs a selection that can be opened again. Decide whether the important thing is a fixed group of titles, a particular sequence or a live metadata rule. For a fixed personal selection, save a playlist and inspect it independently rather than relying on the browser remaining on one filtered screen.

Review the selected set

Before adding items, check the boundaries of the selection. A filter that appears to show a short list may include more items than expected after a sort or view change. Use a clear playlist name that explains its purpose. The synthetic example is a three-clip workbench session, so an accidental unrelated movie would be easy to notice during a membership review.

Rehearse the actual sequence

Open the saved playlist and check the first item, later items and intended ordering. A playlist does not duplicate the underlying media, so a moved or unavailable file can still interrupt the session. If the list will be reused, record its intended members in a small planning note. That note explains why the sequence was assembled and helps reconstruct it if the personal application state is later changed.

A focused way to proceed

  1. Open the personal-server library and select or filter the intended items.
  2. Review the visible selection before using Add to Playlist.
  3. Create a clearly named playlist or choose the intended existing one.
  4. Open the playlist and verify membership and order before playback.

Worked example · synthetic

Playlist: Workbench review session
Expected items: overview-demo; assembly-demo; comparison-demo
Check: exactly three items, intended order, each underlying file available

Read the comparison

Adding a selection saves a list of media references; it does not create a merged video file.

When to stop or ask for help

If membership differs, inspect the original selection scope and intended playlist before changing the media library.
