The useful distinctions

  • Many item types expose Add to favourites in the context menu.
  • The context menu can be opened with C, right-click or a long remote OK press.
  • Favourites are reached from the main menu.
  • Skin settings can hide the main-menu Favourites entry.

Save destinations with a purpose

A useful shelf answers recurring needs: open the workshop playlist, browse the local archive or return to one reference recording. Avoid adding every item during the first session. A long unordered shelf recreates the navigation problem it was meant to solve. Give each chosen destination a clear role and confirm that it opens the expected level of the interface.

Distinguish shortcuts from copies

Adding a favourite is a navigation change, so maintain it alongside the source or playlist it points toward. If a source is renamed or a playlist is replaced, test the shortcut as part of that maintenance. Keeping a favourite does not establish another copy of the underlying media. Retain ordinary media and configuration backups according to their own recovery requirements.

Review the shared screen

Check the shelf from the profile and skin that will actually be used. If the main-menu entry is missing, inspect the skin’s visibility options before concluding that the saved favourite disappeared. Periodically remove abandoned destinations so the remaining entries stay recognisable. For a shared installation, prefer a small set of explainable shortcuts over a personal collection that somebody else has to open one by one to understand.

A focused way to proceed

  1. Highlight the intended playlist, source or title.
  2. Open its context menu and choose Add to favourites when available.
  3. Open Favourites from the main menu and test the new entry.
  4. Keep the shelf short and remove stale destinations through its context menu.

Read the comparison

A missing main-menu button can be a skin visibility choice even when favourites still exist.

When to stop or ask for help

If a favourite opens the wrong destination, inspect the original item and active profile before editing XML manually.
