Applies to: A viewer reports a guide association but has omitted which approved source supplied the record.

The useful distinctions

  • A service reference needs its source context.
  • A source label and a private access address are not the same disclosure.
  • Credentials or tokens can appear inside configuration material.

Give the investigation a usable source context

A service name and an identifier can still be ambiguous if the source that supplied them is unknown. Add a neutral label such as “approved source A” to the comparison record. This preserves provenance without requiring the complete access address in a public message. If authorised private support genuinely needs more detail, use that verified route and disclose only what is necessary; do not assume that a copied link contains no sensitive information.

Do not confuse provenance with a new configuration instruction

Recording which source was used does not authorise substituting an unrelated guide or experimenting with unknown addresses. The task is to describe the existing approved context and its result. Keep the service’s complete edition label, the selected date and the programme evidence with the neutral source name. This lets the source owner distinguish an identity mismatch from a comparison that unknowingly used another source altogether.

Hypothetical worked example

A fictional report says that `harbor.example` showed the wrong bulletin on 8 November 2026, but two approved source contexts were being compared. Relabelling the observations as Source A and Source B makes the difference understandable without posting either private address. Support can ask which source is intended for Harbor East and investigate that association, rather than guessing from a reference value detached from its provenance.

A focused way to proceed

  1. Use a neutral source label agreed with the support conversation.
  2. Record the service reference and dated programme comparison under that label.
  3. Keep full account-bearing addresses out of public summaries and screenshots.

When to stop or ask for help

Provide neutral source-qualified evidence and use the verified private route for any necessary account-specific detail.
