The useful distinctions
- Jellyfin documents Books, Audiobooks and Comics organization with a folder per book.
- An author folder is an optional organizational level.
- Optional cover and OPF metadata files can be kept with a book.
- Read-along audiobooks are documented as unsupported.
Give each work a boundary
A multipart audiobook needs a clear home so that its files can be assessed as one intended work. Start with one self-authored book and keep all of its parts together. An author directory can make a large collection easier to maintain, but it should not replace the book directory. That boundary also provides a sensible place for local descriptive material and artwork.
Keep the package understandable
Use filenames that make the intended part sequence clear to a person reviewing the folder. The example includes two audio parts and an original cover, without suggesting that these names guarantee every client’s playback presentation. Add optional metadata only when it addresses a real identification need. Keeping the first package small makes it easier to distinguish an incorrect book match from a missing file or an unsupported client feature.
Set the right expectation
An audiobook catalogue is not automatically a synchronized text-and-audio reading system. Check the features offered by the particular client you intend to use before planning a read-along workflow around it. After import, compare the recognized work and accessible parts with your package inventory. If the result differs, preserve that small layout and describe the discrepancy rather than reorganizing an entire author collection before understanding one representative case.
A focused way to proceed
- Create a Books library source with a separate folder for each book.
- Place all intended audio parts for one book inside that folder.
- Add an original cover.jpg and optional supported OPF metadata if needed.
- Scan the library and inspect the book identity and available playback behavior on the intended client.

Correct catalogue recognition does not establish synchronized text support or identical behavior across clients.
