The useful distinctions
- Mouse compatibility depends on the device combination.
- Bluetooth discovery is a separate pairing stage.
- A mouse paired to another host may need to be detached there first.
Prepare the actual accessory
Apple’s guide does not treat every mouse and iPad combination as interchangeable. Check the accessory instructions, charge or power state and whether it is already associated with another host. A mouse that remains connected to a Mac can create a misleading impression that it is ready for new pairing simply because its light is on.
Verify the system-level result first
After selecting the intended device, test pointer movement and an ordinary interface selection. That establishes more than a Bluetooth name alone. Do not start with an important player setting or a sensitive sign-in field. If the pointer works in a system screen but one application handles a click differently, retain that distinction for the app-specific investigation.
Keep pointer preferences separate
Tracking speed, click behaviour and pointer appearance are additional choices after a working connection exists. Changing several of them during discovery makes a basic pairing problem harder to describe. Choose one later adjustment based on a real need, and keep the original value available. The goal is a predictable input path; pairing does not validate the player’s account method or make every app behave like a desktop program.
A focused way to proceed
- Put the compatible mouse in its discovery mode.
- Open iPad Settings and Bluetooth.
- Select the intended device when it appears.
- Test pointer movement and a harmless system selection.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical example: a mouse appears in Bluetooth settings but still controls a nearby computer. Detaching the old host according to its instructions changes the starting state for the iPad pairing test. A different case, where the iPad pointer moves but one app ignores a click, needs app-input guidance instead.
When to stop or ask for help
Consult the accessory manufacturer when discovery fails or compatibility is unclear. Do not infer complete app control from a successful system-pointer test.
