Applies to: Google TV interfaces with the documented app-details removal controls
The useful distinctions
- The app row can open a View details action.
- Its Uninstall control removes the selected application.
- Moving a launcher tile is a different operation.
Identify the installation rather than a recommendation
Google documents a route from the installed-app row to its details page. Confirm that the selected item is the actual app you intend to remove, not a programme recommendation or another player with similar artwork. A careful identity check matters more than the position of the tile in the launcher.
Decide whether uninstalling is necessary
A Home-screen organisation task can often be completed with a move operation. Uninstalling answers a different need and may require later setup work. Before proceeding, know the legitimate app source and the information needed to configure it again. Do not use removal as the first unexplained response to a service message that has not been identified.
Verify the correct state afterwards
Inspect whether the installation remains available through its normal app details or store entry, rather than judging solely from a changed launcher row. If a later reinstall is required, use the verified original listing. A newly installed player still needs its own authorised setup; removing and restoring software does not itself establish account status or expand device support.
A focused way to proceed
- Find the exact installed app in Your apps.
- Hold Select and open View details.
- Review the intended application and its Uninstall control.
- Confirm removal only after checking recovery needs.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical comparison: a viewer wants a player nearer the front of the app row but opens its Uninstall control. The selected action changes installation state, not just convenience. Returning to the launcher Move operation is the narrower way to meet the original layout goal.
When to stop or ask for help
Stop if a managed device blocks removal, the app is not identifiable or required setup cannot be recovered. Follow current model instructions for protected/system applications rather than attempting to remove them by another route.
