Applies to: Google TV interfaces with the documented Your apps row
The useful distinctions
- The app row offers a Move action.
- A long Select press opens its menu.
- Reordering does not install another app.
Change the route, not the application
Google documents an app-row editing command that changes where a launcher tile appears. It is useful when the correct player is already installed but takes too many remote presses to reach. Check the tile label before moving it; a recommendation for a programme is not necessarily the installed application entry you intended to organise.
Choose a layout around a real task
Think about the sequence that matters most: opening the player, reaching a store or finding a support app. Keep a small group of regularly used destinations together rather than moving every tile in one sitting. This is an interface preference, not a performance setting. A player that launches more conveniently has not thereby gained new account access or decoding capabilities.
Make the change easy to undo
Note the previous location if the television is shared. After confirming the move, exit editing and launch the app once through the normal row. That final check catches a mistaken tile selection without changing any player configuration. If another household member relies on a familiar order, explain the new position instead of assuming the previous installation disappeared.
A focused way to proceed
- Find the app in Your apps.
- Hold Select to open its menu.
- Choose Move and adjust the position.
- Confirm the position and leave edit mode.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical example: a viewer repeatedly scrolls past six unused tiles to reach an installed player. Moving that one tile nearer the beginning reduces the navigation sequence. If the app still reports the same account error, the shortcut change has completed its job and the account issue remains separate.
When to stop or ask for help
If the interface has no Move command or the row belongs to a managed profile, use the model documentation. Do not uninstall and reinstall an app merely to try to change its position.
