The useful distinctions
- The guide provides a remote mouse-cursor mode.
- Directional controls can move that cursor.
- The OK control selects an element in that mode.
Choose the right interaction mode
Formuler documents a remote-driven mouse cursor for situations where pointing is appropriate. That differs from ordinary directional focus, where the interface chooses the next selectable item. Confirm which mode the remote is using before concluding that a button has failed. An app designed around one interaction style may not behave like the television launcher.
Test an unambiguous element
After the cursor appears, move it to a harmless visible control and use the documented selection button. Record whether the cursor moves, whether the selection is accepted and whether the app changes screens. Those are separate observations. A pointer that moves successfully does not prove that every displayed object is clickable or that a particular application supports the same input method.
Keep hotkey configuration distinct
Some remote models use a configurable shortcut through the Formuler Remote app. Treat assigning that key as a setup task and using it as a later control task. Check the exact remote model before applying a screenshot from another controller. Once the pointer route works, return to the mode that best suits the app rather than making unrelated account or installation changes.
A focused way to proceed
- Identify the supported cursor button or configured hotkey.
- Activate mouse-cursor mode.
- Move the cursor using the directional pad.
- Use OK on a harmless supported interface element.
Worked example · synthetic
Hypothetical comparison: the directional pad moves a launcher highlight in one mode and a free cursor in another. A viewer who expects the highlight may believe navigation has broken after switching modes. Identifying the active mode is a more useful first check than reinstalling the player.
When to stop or ask for help
Use Formuler’s model-specific hotkey instructions when no cursor button is present. Escalate an app that ignores a functioning pointer separately from a remote that cannot activate the documented mode.
