Applies to: A viewer considers uploading a full log after an error.

The useful distinctions

  • Logs can contain tokens, session identifiers and personal data.
  • A diagnostic event needs relevant timing and context, not automatically the entire log.
  • Removing sensitive data should preserve enough structure to understand the event.

Choose the event before the export

Start with the question support needs to answer and the approximate incident time. A full diagnostic archive can include far more information than that question requires. Look for the short error and the nearby context needed to interpret it. Keep the date, timezone and sequence clear. If the viewer cannot review the material safely, ask the verified support route for a smaller collection method rather than upload everything by default.

Make redaction and scope understandable

Replace sensitive values with clear neutral markers while preserving labels and event order. Do not remove so much structure that the excerpt becomes misleading. State that it is a selected interval, not a complete history, and avoid claiming that omitted events did not occur. If support needs more, the request can identify a narrower next sample. A public file host is not made appropriate merely because the filename contains the word diagnostics.

Hypothetical worked example

A fictional viewer notices an error at 18:00 UTC on 8 November 2026. They prepare a short reviewed excerpt around that event, replace access values with REDACTED and explain the time window. The sample retains the error sequence without unrelated account activity. They do not call it the complete log or infer that no earlier error occurred. A verified support request can then specify any additional bounded evidence genuinely needed.

A focused way to proceed

  1. Identify the approximate incident and relevant short error.
  2. Review a small surrounding excerpt for secrets and unrelated personal context.
  3. State that the excerpt is limited and use a verified private route for any further necessary material.

When to stop or ask for help

Send the reviewed minimal excerpt with its scope stated, and request a narrower collection method if safe review is not practical.
