Applies to: A viewer compares a live programme with an archived or edited version.
The useful distinctions
- Live and completed media can have different accessibility workflows.
- A later edition is separate evidence from the original occurrence.
- The programme identity, edition and observation time should be retained together.
Keep the version history visible
A programme can be edited, corrected or supplied with additional text after its live occurrence. The later version may be more useful to a viewer, but it does not answer what was available at the earlier time. Keep the live observation and the later edition’s evidence in separate entries. Otherwise support may unknowingly use a successful archive check to dismiss a report that concerns a different production stage.
Ask the practical next question
If the household needs to watch live, the relevant question is what access format is confirmed for that live occurrence. If delayed viewing is acceptable, a completed edition may offer an alternative that needs its own verification. State which viewing plan matters. Do not infer a live caption promise from a later subtitle label, or assume that every future live occurrence will follow the same workflow as one completed programme.
Hypothetical worked example
A fictional viewer records no usable text during occurrence LF-8 at 18:00 UTC on 8 November 2026. On9 November, edition LF-8-EDIT lists English subtitles. The viewer records the later option as new evidence and asks whether it meets their delayed-viewing needs. They retain the original live observation with its timestamp rather than conclude that the subtitles must have been available during the original transmission.
A focused way to proceed
- Identify whether each observation concerns live or completed media.
- Record the occurrence and later edition separately.
- Compare the actual labels and sample results without assuming they were identical earlier.
When to stop or ask for help
Clarify whether the enquiry concerns live access or the later edition, and ask for confirmation in that specific scope.
